The Northeast Hawley Development Association, Inc. (NEHDA) is a not-for-profit community housing development agency committed to revitalizing and stabilizing the northeast sector of Syracuse. Established in 1974, NEHDA provides homeownership opportunities for underserved low to moderate income households who choose to live on Syracuse’s northeast side. NEHDA offers new construction or totally rehabbed homes to eligible households. NEHDA provides pre and post purchase counseling programs that include the basics of buying a home, determining eligibility, managing finances, foreclosure prevention, planning for maintenance and repairs to a home. NEHDA offers free home improvement workshops and financial workshops. Outreach, advocacy and community building are major components of our program which sustain a positive quality of life for all residents and stakeholders within our service area.

NEHDA, Inc. is committed to improving the lives of the residents and business people in the northeast community of Syracuse by:

• Promoting neighborhood stabilization by providing and developing quality housing with an emphasis on owner-occupancy.
• Providing advocacy and support in all arenas for a positive quality of life.
• Promoting community-enhancing economic development.
• Encouraging and sponsoring community-building activities.

Vision Statement

NEHDA, Inc. envisions a vibrant and safe community where individuals, organizations, businesses and government agencies work together and assume responsibility for resolving problems and increasing the quality of life in the entire community.

To accomplish this vision, NEHDA offers a full array of programs that encourage stewardship and improve the quality of life for existing and potential residents, including homeowners, renters, landlords, and business owners. These are implemented through counseling and educational programs, financial services, community organizing assistance, advocacy, housing development and rehabilitation programs, and networking with other organizations.
