The U.S. Small Business Administration and AARP will hold a seminar Tuesday, Aug. 16, for people over the age of 50 who want to start their own businesses.
The "Encore Mentoring" event is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. at the Syracuse Technology Garden at 235 Harrison St. in Syracuse.
Attendees will learn the basics of business planning and hear presentations from the SBA, the WISE Women's Business Center, AARP and local entrepreneur Lisa Eklund.

According to the SBA, more than half of all U.S. small business owners were age 50 or older in 2012, up from 46 percent in 2007.
